Norma - Week Three

Director Kay Walker Castaldo goes over some staging with supernumeraries Jim Goff (center) and Alan Spulecki (right). Supernumeraries are small, non-singing roles that are an essential part to every OCP production.

Two of the supernumerary girls play Norma’s children, who she has been hiding from her people in order to conceal the fact that she has broken her vow of chastity and had an affair with the Roman proconsul Pollione.
Tenor Philip Webb makes his Opera Company of Philadelphia debut as Pollione, Norma’s faithless lover who has fallen in love with the young priestess Adalgisa.

The set for Norma has many different entrances which the singers must navigate to get onstage. Here are some views from stage left and upstage center.
